Capital Ship Wars

This map was first started in 2006. As a child, I loved working on warcraft 3 maps and was foaming at the mouth with ideas for them, but I lacked the planning and disciple to finish a map. It always bothered me that I never completed one, despite trying a time or two over the years before hitting a wall of some sort each time. This is me being able to finally tell my subconscious that I did it, regardless of how fun the finish product came out.

There are two teams of up to 5 players. AI will control the ships in the absence of players, so it can be played solo.
Each team has a Capital Ship with a hangar of fighters. You can get in a fighter and fly it with the arrow keys, or control the Capital Ship directly. If your in a fighter, you explore the map looking for the enemy Capital Ship while dogfighting any enemies you come across. The game ends when one of the Capital Ships is destroyed.

Keyboard controls can be a bit sluggish and finicky, moreso if your not player one, but so far as I know this can't really be helped. There is a chance, although a slim one, that it will start both Capitol Ships on top of each other. I think I fixed this but I'm not positive. If this happens just restart. With AI (slots unused), play time is around 12 minutes.

Developed for 1.26. No clue if it works for reforged.

Author and username difference. Is this map yours? Can you prove it? If not, do you have permission to edit/upload? Any evidence of contacting the original author(s)?

A credits list in the map description with the names of the authors whose resources you've used is mandatory. That includes models, skins, icons, custom spells, systems. Also, sounds, music and everything outside this site.

  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

Credits added to description, please let me know if its not what is needed. PurpleDragon5 was my b.net username back in the day before I switched to Leinad. It felt appropriate to leave my old screenname as the author. The closest I have to proof is this image I guess, showing both the work done on the map and how I really do have a map that was started back then.

  1. Getting through ships, planets/stars, asteroids doesn't deal you damage or destroy ships.
  2. Warcraft III limitation of only going forth and back and on the sides, no up and down.
  3. Would be nice to have the ships more versatile and different in what they can do.
  4. An idea would be a game mode to be able to board the enemy ship and take it over by destroying/capturing some thing/point in it (fighting your way through).
  5. Interceptors move in a crazy stuttering way.
  6. Nifty stuff with the capital ship control but I'm afraid it's too easy to use units the Warcraft III way against the X-wing game type way. Maybe you could think of something more to do with these ships, like they are supposed to gather a set amount of resources to win unless destroyed by the enemy or beaten to the resource limit by the enemy.
Overall reminds a bit of this.
