Besides, generally, images can't be properly linked in conversations/private messages like you can here, on profiles or on threads.

For some reason I assumed that it was not possible to directly link images from pastebin and would thus require an additional click on the recipient's part - but that was probably wrong then...?

Well, if you need images for non-public matters, please use either Pastebin or some external site. We really don't need dummy Media files cluttering around.
Also, if the image is already on the site, link that.
