Starwars is a very promising and demanding theme.
Once upon a time, anticipating a fairy Lucas-style tale,
I downloaded a map "starwars". The map was a flat snowy terrain,
labourously divided by a standard WC walls into small areas full of
bastards whose models were classic WC3 ones. The main hero (illidan as
I concluded at first sight but a real jedi as the name said) and two
marines supporting him were supposed to do a dumb cleanup of the whole
territory.
Since then I, being suspicious and unenthusiastic, ingnored any promising
starwars projects. This time the author's name made me change the rule.
The exception didn't turn to be a mistake. In the author's place I would
add a subtitle reading "Episode 7". I'm not serious of course, but the campaign
turned to be a great cinematic show with magnificent scenes full of olof's
wonderful models rarely interrupted by gameplay which fits well enough or
at least doesn't spoil the show. The terrain and doodads are well done though not
sometimes are not very detailed. The gameplay is easy, friendly and sometimes
even challenging (last playable map). The campaign is rather short and leaves a
feeling as if you had to leave a dinner after the first course. I completed
it in 2 or 3 hours.
So what's the conclusion?
I would recommend the campaign for everyone who doesn't feel sick or bored
at hearing Lucas's name. I think, many people, including me, are looking forward
for a sequel.
PS #1 Your Mapmaking majesty,MedMapGuy,we beg you to do some more of starwars!
PS #2 Some bad things. The campaign has no DISBTNs for some buttons (though it looks as if it were a special interface feature). The terrain of the first map makes flamestrike spell completely useless. I think a bit more varied and balanced gameplay wouldn't spoil the campaign.
Final rating 5 of 5 (due to cinematics in the first place)
