Rules Have Been Updated.

I am pleased to announce that we have completely rewritten the site rules. They should now be considerably more clear and fair than the previous set. Following is a short summary of the important points:

• We are serious.
  If you are still at that stage where you use the internet to be anonymous and to act without repercussions, leave. You can come back when you learn that the people you are talking to online are people.
• Be friendly.
  The Hive is a friendly community. All users are expected to treat one another with respect.
• Don't break the law.
  The uploading of any illegal material to this site is forbidden. Posting is a form of uploading. Linking to pages that provide illegal material from this site is also forbidden. The list of illegal materials includes, but is not limited to, pornography, psychoactive drugs, bootleg software, software designed to circumvent legal restrictions, and any material that such a program would produce.
• Speak only English.
  You are only allowed to use English in any publicly visible context of this site.
• Don't spam. We will simply delete it.
  Uploading irrelevant or meaningless material is not allowed. Advertising is often considered spam.
• No trading.
  The Hive is not a marketplace. Offering or soliciting items for sale or in trade is not permitted.
• Use common sense.

Also social groups have a proper set of rules governming them now, so please follow the rules when creating and using them.

It's very likely that the majority people who actually break these rules either don't care enough to read them or don't care enough to uphold them, and in both of these cases, restatement of the rules won't change anything.

It's not the users that this affects.

It's because that a) people already solve their problems (or avoided it) and b) it's goddamn annoying for some. Sometimes a thread just needs to be left alone and die.

I guess Necroposting is good within reason - it's not something you can make ultimatums on - say you had an old project yet gave it up - perhaps its better to repost in the thread if decide to return to it instead of creating a whole new thread.

Well everyone knows what it is, but I don't think you can remove it as it doesn't show enough in the image. For all we know that Togekiss may just be in a sauna.

It's mostly the acting without reprecussions aspect. You can be anonymous all you want, but we're not just going to let people be jerks "because they can."

I'd like to point out that the necroposting rule is under the etiquette section. Generally you should avoid doing it, but there are circumstances where it is acceptable.

I can believe that there are people who would still want a helpful comment after one month.
In this case it's not considered to be necro-posting, nor is it against the rules (okay, it never really is 'against' the rules, but it doesn't abide by the rules either).

I think I'd rather let it be three (or in this case six) months than when moderators constantly need to unlock threads xD
+ the chances are that the person will create another thread instead of reporting the original one (there are enough cases of this happening after 1 week if the thread isn't even closed, let alone after 1 month if the thread is indeed closed).
It could be downed from six to three months though, don't really see a problem with that :/

I get why you don't want porn linked, but out right calling it illegal is bit odd. Certain types of porn are illegal (such as snuff or rape), but in general pornography isn't per say illegal. Either slightly rewrite the "Don't break the law" point, or give pornography its own small point where perhaps also the limits on how you can discuss porn is defined. Like for instance right now I am talking about pornography, but in a way related to the topic of the rule creation process, and as so that shouldn't be punishable, but if I were linking to www.randompornsite.com that should be punishable, etc.

Well it's cropped to the point where it will only confuse a young child who's ignorant - if the child doesn't already know about that sort of thing - with the internet and other kids these days, finding an "innocent" child is near impossible. I'd still stand with as long as its cropped to the point where you can't see anything then it's ok I guess.
